Cooperation through youtube adsYouTube is in talks with several studios to rent movies to users through Internet download, according to sources close to the process. YouTube, owned by Internet search giant Google Inc. has held talks with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, Sony Pictures, a unit of Sony Corp, Warner Brothers and Time Warner Inc, the online movie rentals, the source said.

The films would be available to rent for a commission in a system similar to online rental programs of iTunes from Apple Inc. would be the first time that YouTube collects from users to view videos.

YouTube, the first online video site in the world, currently offers free videos supported by advertising. Currently, the site has a series of archival films, television programs and promotional clips of the three studies and other partners named in place.

“We hope to expand our relationship with movie studios and the selection and the types of videos we offer to our community,” said YouTube spokesman Chris Dale.
